Mmm! A fugu (globefish) restaurant in Tokyo

Do you have the guts to taste fugu(ふぐ) dishes? Have you ever tried to eat the raw blow fish which contains deadly poison in its organs? I have tried the fugu dishes twice before.

My first experience of eating fugu dishes was in NanTong, Chian. In March 1999 , I was in my business trip to China and paid a visit to an IC packaing house in NanTong where locate in the north side of Shanghai. We should take the commuting ferry across the Yangtze river. (Yangtze river is the longest river in China and the Yellow River is the second one.) We drove the car into the parking lot of the huge ferry and took about 1 hour to get to NanTong. During the moving, my friend told me that it's about time to eat the Yangtze river's famous dishes -- blow fish now but I really don't care about his idea.

After the visiting and we ate out in a small restaurant just next to their factory, I almost forgot his proposed dishes till they served the boiled fugu to us. To my surprise, we will taste the fugu with deadly poison in a such small restaurant and I was sure that it was cooked by a non-licensed chef. Oh! My Goodness... Eventually, I ate up my quota of the lunch, One boiled fugu and sliced raw fugu's skin sasimi, because they explained that the chef had tasted the fugu soup before they served the dishes to us. That's is the reason why... It's my bad.

It's reported that there are about 40 kinds of blow fish in Japan. Poisonous parts of fugu differ from each other depending on what kind of fugu they serve with. Of course, the chef have to learn the special skills for cooking the meal.

This time is quite different experience and I ordered a set meal of Fugu-sashimi (raw blow fish) in the Shabu-Shabu restaurant - ZEN. In Japan, they have a strict regulations and only licensed cooks are allowed to prepare fugu meal. Don't try to eat the fugu out of the country since the poison of globefish can lead to instantaneous death.

Anyway, their fugu sashimi and deep fried fugu is yummy. The beef of Shabu-Shabu is tasty and very fresh. So, If you get the chance, please visit them then. O-I-Shi-De-Su!
